Directions
to Parrish Womble Park
From Raleigh, take US 1 South to exit for NC 55 at Apex. Take NC 55 to the left (east and south) towards Holly Springs. A mile or two later, you'll need to take a left at a light onto what is called both Williams Street and NC 55. At Holly Springs, NC 55 turns into Main St. Turn left on Elm St. (at 400 S. Main St.). From Elm St., turn right onto Grigsby Ave.. Turn left on Stinson Ave., then right into the parking lot before the fields. From Durham or Chapel Hill; take I-40 to exit 278 For NC 55. Take NC 55 south and east to Holly Springs (about 15 minutes drive, go through Apex). Cross US 1 and a mile or two later, you'll need to take a left at a light onto what is called both Williams Street and NC 55. Going straight puts you on the 55 Bypass around Holly Springs. Once in Holly Springs NC 55 turns into Main St. Turn left onto Elm St. (at 400 S. Main St.). Turn right onto Grigsby Ave. Turn left on Stinson Ave., then right into the parking lot before the fields. Chapel Hill drivers should also consider going south, probably down 751, to US 64 East, to NC 55 South. Alternate Route from Chapel Hill(1) Get on Mt Carmel Church Rd (just south of the bypass off 15-501) heading out towards Lake Jordan; Mt Carmel turns into Farrington at some point; after about 8 miles from town, it crosses a long bridge over the lake, and you turn left onto Martha's Chapel Rd. (2) Go on Martha's Chapel until it dead ends into NC-751 (about 2.8 mi). (3) Turn right (south) on 751, and go 3.7 mi til it hits US-64. (4) Cross US-64. You're now on NewHill-OliveChapel Rd, which eventually turns into NewHill/Holleman Rd. It crosses Old US-1, and then for-real US-1. Just past US-1 turn left onto Friendship Rd. This is about 5.6 mi south of US-64. (5) Go 1.5 mi on Friendship Rd. Where it makes a sharp turn to the left, take the right turn. There is no road sign here. (6) Follow this road about 5 miles, and it hits NC-55 at a traffic light just a few blocks north of the turnoff for the fields. This last road seems to have a variety of names, mostly various combinations of New Hill and Holly Springs. It also has a stretch of a mile or two where it is gravel. This route might be nice for Durham-ites too. Just follow NC-751 south from town, and follow it to US-64 and pick up at #4. |
